‘My favourite sentence is ...because ...’

We are relaunching one of our most popular competitions - with a new twist. Previously students wrote in to share with us the word they love the most - now comes ‘the sentence you love the most’. The rules are very simple; we want you to tell us a sentence that inspires, interests, or just amuses you. Also important is to let us know why.

We have gathered a very special panel to judge the competition. The first three people who give the best explanation for their favourite sentence will each win a special prize.

Yeşim Çobankent, a journalist from Hürriyet newspaper, is a former winner of the competition who has agreed to be one of our judges this term. Her favourite sentence is: ‘’Spoken words fly away, written word remains.’

Yeşim told us what this sentence means to her. ’I believe in the written word more than anything else in life. I have a genuine concern that anything that is not written can simply be lost. The phrase also reminds me that I should talk less and write more…!”

The competition starts 01/03/2010 and ends 01/06/2010. What is your favourite phrase and why? Please email your responses to courseinfo@britishside.com.
